Guild Surfliner Deluxe Review & Demo
This week we're having a look at the Guild Surfliner Deluxe, a guitar that punches well above its weight class in sound, feel, and aesthetic appeal. Sure, at $700 there are some areas that could be refined, but nothing so egregious that should stop you from considering this if you're in the market for an Offset well below the $1k price point.

JAGUAR REVIEW #5: Fender Johnny Marr
Переглядів 56 тис.Рік тому
This week we're having a go at the FANTASTIC Johnny Marr Jaguar, a guitar that I've really grown attached to in the short time I've owned it. So far reliable and easy to play, the Marr is a somewhat distilled version of the Jaguar that eschews some complication in its control scheme, yet remains as versatile as ever. I dig! Fender Changed the Headstock
Переглядів 37 тис.Рік тому
Hello once again to one and all. Got an exciting news update for you: Fender changed the headstock of the American Vintage II 1966 Jazzmaster! That's right, we've got the era-correct CBS headstock now instead of the small Jazzmaster headstock seen from 1958-1965. This brings the model's aesthetic in line with the very thing it's replicating. Well done, Fender! If you enjoyed this video, conside...

    It is great to see someone giving the old vibrola a fair evaluation. I have one on my SG Special and I love the resistance that it gives and how that makes for a very smooth fluctuation in pitch.

    We who were already Jazzmaster owners and Fender players when the block inlays and larger headstock came out, HATED THEM!! So you are fussing about components that you think are wrong ... while many people originally did not like what you are complaining about the reissues NOT BEING! HA! Confused? Now. More confusion. I'd LOVE to have a reissue Jazzmaster in RED with matching headstock!! Go figure ...

    With those bridges that have like a screw slots for your strings ….I took a file and sand paper and made the cradle out of the slot i use for my string normally and trenched it a bit deeper so it was wider and deeper and just raised the bridge to prevent the strings from slipping i still like tuneomatic myself

    Hi Mike I have a few Q if I may. I just bought 40th (not vintage) and was planning to mod the hell out of it. Got it half price new in a shop, so very happy. “Problem” is mostly with the trem. It needed the hammer trick, but otherwise I cant get this guitar out of tune, so only reason I can find is my own snobbyness, because I would like it to say Fender on it. So is the fender AM vint. a good upgrade? I think the pickups sound good clean, but with overdrive, theres some overtones I dont like, so im going to try some lollar 58. I play it with the tone rolled to like about 4. I have sanded the neck, and that made it play really well. Allso did a good ageing to the body with a lot of dings. And im going to take of the squier logo and put fender there, but not gonna sell it, so again its for my own snobbyness.

    Hi Mike, I’ve got a classic vibe bass VI, I love the sound of the stock pickups but they’re super microphonic, so much so that even with all the pickups turned off sound comes through. What on earth is going on? Is that a wiring thing?

    I'm not sure if things have changed since this video came out but mine has none of the issues you mentioned and it was produced in July of 2023. I have the same color one too and it doesn't have the same headstock even, it's the jumbo sized normal Jazzmaster one. Maybe they rushed ones that were wrong out to reviewers instead of selling them. I bet whoever was crowning frets noticed halfway through that the headstock was wrong and they stopped any work since they couldn't sell it, maybe a poor decision if reviewers were going to receive it. I don't think this guitar is indicative of the overall QC or the value of this series of guitars. You can't review the entire line of guitars, which is what you're doing, based on the quality of 1 or 2 examples. As far as your critique about the accuracy of the design, there's another yt video that a/bs an actual 66 Jazzmaster sunburst with this and they're identical. I don't think this is a very good review video for the guitar itself. Because there are a few issues that could be remedied by getting a replacement, the video devolves into a fender QC criticism video. What about the guitar? Does it sound and feel good on its own merits. Fender QC is its own topic. If everything were right, what is the evaluation? It just becomes easy/lazy content to fuss over QC problems but I know it's not necessarily your fault when you are pressed to get a video done and don't have time to wait for the replacement. Although, since it seems you and your buddy got to keep/modify this guitar, you could have accepted the gift and made the necessary repairs to see what it would be like if it were right and then made a QC video later about overall issues on everything, not just 1 guitar. I really got nothing out of this video

    Super helpful as always! I just got my hands on a beautiful Vintera Jazzmaster in fantastic shape but had so much electromagnetic noise it was annoying to play. Turns out the prior owner had installed a new pickguard and didn't pay attention to where the wires were running so they were all literally directly under the neck pickup. After shielding the entire cavity (with COPPER foil tape lol) and making sure the wires sat in the route next to the neck pick up as opposed to directly under it it now sounds completely quiet to the extent that my amp makes the same amount of hum whether this guitar is plugged in or not. Such a huge improvement and thanks for the tips in the video - I wouldn't have been as careful about the wires without Mike pointing that out in this video!

    would the distilled vinegar method work to fade a gold anodized aluminum pickguard or would that somehow screw with the anodization?

  • @Tonetwisters
    @Tonetwisters 9 днів тому

    There is so much wiring in a Jazzmaster that they really need some excellent shielding from ... the world! Whether that is directly from the aluminum pickguard or a plastic guard with an aluminum shielding underneath ... I don't think it would matter much.

  • @reddottx
    @reddottx 9 днів тому

    I was thinking that when you were talking about the small headstock, I agreed with your point but it didn’t matter at all to me. Then…OMG… those flaws don’t belong on any guitar much less an American Fender. I see so many reviews of Squires or Epiphones that have none of these problems. Nearly every guitar needs a set up but tool marks on inlays and fretboards? That’s ridiculous. I’ll look very closely when I go to my local shop to play one. Thanks for the heads up and honest review.

    As an experienced tech you'd know the vast majority who attempt a home build will fail, and end up @ local guitar shop paying to have their creation rebuilt + a competent setup - and it still may never play well...(?) "Parts" don't just fall together, you would know that. Calling guitars a 'partscaster' = passive aggressive insult from someone who has failed. No shame in failing, it takes alotta skill to build an electric guitar.

    Re: guitar dimensions (nut width, etc.) I think it’s significant that the average young adult born recently is around ten centimeters, approximately 5%, taller than our ancestors 100 years ago. Have guitar dimensions increased significantly in that time? I don’t think so. So are many of us now playing guitars that are practically too small, but we’ve sort of overlooked/got used to it? It seems possible.

    Dammit! The Legendary "Classic Vibe" Series is NOT Classic Vibe Quality anymore and this Jaguar is a "Legendary" FAIL. When the Nut is a disaster so is a critical aspect of its Quality = Horrendous performance. The former original Classic Vibe Chinese Yako Factory would not allow this and even Chinese Yako Affinities were very well finished.
